Self-Reflection

Self-reflection is a mirror,
and growth is the
courage to keep looking.

Darian Essentia frequently shifted
from one career to another.
Each start was fresh, each a new climb,
Never progressing, no challenge
sufficient to grow.

Told himself he needed to change,
But gave up, “It’s just the person I am”.
Without self-awareness, he knew not himself.
He chased careers based on other’s satisfaction.

He did not talk to his person inside,
A life of searching, for what he did not know.

He sat one evening, weary, in a park,
Totally exhausted, he felt lost.
Extreme fatigue slowed down his thinking,
His mind drifted to an unknown place.

A man approached, casual, nothing special;
A plain shirt, worn shoes, a presence calm.
Darian did not recognize him,
but he was familiar.

“Why do you run, Darian?” the man asked,
“I’m searching, for the career
that will bring happiness.”

The man nodded, “Have you looked within?
Closed your eyes to open your mind?
Asked yourself, what do I truly seek”

Darian closed his eyes,
first time he looked inside.
Thoughts came to mind,
questions, no answers.

But recognized what he's overlooked,
He doesn’t need to become someone else;
He must simply uncover his truest self.

He opened his eyes, the bench sat empty.
Realization came swift, there was no man,
The voice was his own, from deep inside.

Self-reflection, he realized,
was not an indulgence,
But a requirement to create your path.

He now knew to look inside,
The first step to do - learn himself.
